Simply the best experience I have ever had at a luthier.

I really can’t say enough good things about working with Chip. He’s such a nice guy, and it’s clear he’s passionate about what he does. He’s great about communicating with clients both via phone and email, and ensuring the work is agreed upon and the price is fair. His shop is easy to find and was very secure, I felt good about leaving my instruments there. And his work? It’s fantastic.

My P bass got clipped by a crash cymbal on a gig, putting a noticeable divot in the side of the fingerboard. When I dropped it off to Chip to repair, I also left two Jazz basses with him - one with a streaky rosewood board I wanted stained to a consistent dark finish, and another with a gremlin in the electronics. Chip repaired all three in expert fashion - the work is so good I can’t tell that they’d been worked on at all. What’s more, he completed the work in only THREE DAYS. I dropped them off on a Saturday and he called me the following Tuesday. As a working musician with several weekly gigs, I was so happy with that uncommonly quick turnaround.

I’ve been to a few luthiers in the Baltimore area, with varying results. Chip is the real deal, and will absolutely be my go-to from now on. He’s the man!

I am thrilled to have found Chip. It’s tough to find a great luthier that you can trust. After a disappointing experience with work on my guitar at another place, I found Chip Tait through a friend. In the span of two weeks he has worked on 4 of my guitars, all custom shop or vintage guitars. He masterfully put a pick up in a ‘66 0-18 for me and the same for a J-200. I am a believer in the Southeastern setup, and Chip now knows where I like my setup to me. Plus, he’s a swell guy with fantastic stories! I highly recommend Brooklyn Fretworks.

Not only is Chip at Brooklyn Fretaorks an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable guitar tech and luthier, he is also a wonderfully kind and helpful person. He fixed my guitar in a hurry with a deftness and attention to detail. I highly recommend his services if you need any work done on your instrument.

I purchased a Ibanez bass over a year ago and it developed fret bite where the edges of the frets were protruding over the edge of the fretboard. Also the volume pot was beginning to fail as well. I was very please to find Chip online and grateful that he was local as well. I made my appointment and took my bass to the shop. Chip was extremely friendly, professional, and inviting. He provided me with a cost and how long it would take. My pick up was within the timeframe provided and the work was outstanding. Highly, highly recommend any work that you may need to have done to reach out for sure. I will be a returning customer for some future work and upgrades.

Went to Chip with my Godin Ultra A6 acoustic hybrid guitar that was having issues with the piezo pickup. He reached out to the manufacturer and ordered a replacement and had it installed shortly after arrival. Great communication and experience overall.

I have a rather unique custom guitar and I had previously taken it to a few repair places looking to have the frets lowered (they were very tall) to which some were a bit apprehensive to do it. It was then I took it to Chipp who promptly did research on his own, consulted me about the desired new fret height and in a weeks time, finished the task and did a great job. I'll definitely be going back

I couldn’t be happier with the service my guitar received at Brooklyn Fretworks. When my Martin needed a little TLC, Chip was able to schedule it in immediately, had the job done within a few days, and asked a very reasonable price. This also wasn’t a cookie cutter job and he asked the right questions about my preferences for setup. Chip is also a genuinely nice guy to boot. I will happily return to Brooklyn Fretworks for any additional work my guitars need.

Chip did a great job fixing up an old LG-0 that I purchased in the 90s and used with the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Now it sounds better than ever! Thanks Chip!
